Each of these Annual Community Programming offers either opportunities for community engagement, or social integration initiatives that support urban Indigenous community members to be successful in an urban environment.

Back-Pack Program
Our Back-Pack program helps to support urban Indigenous students who are heading off to school. This program is for students attending school within the HRM and goes from grades pre-primary to post-secondary. The students receive a backpack filled with supplies based on their grade level in late August.

Urban Indigenous Christmas Cheer
Christmas Cheer supports urban Indigenous community members in need during the holiday season to provide families with what they need to celebrate and participate in the Christmas spirit. Since 2002, it has grown from providing food hampers for students away from home, to helping 55+ families annually, distributing over 725 packages. With generous support of our sponsors, we offer gifts, turkeys, winter clothing, personal care items, and gift cards. Our annual Community Christmas Dinner, a heartwarming event designed to bring everyone together during the festive season. Whether you’re gathering with family, friends, or making new connections, this dinner is a wonderful way to celebrate the season of giving.

March Break / Summer Day Camp
Day Camps for kids ages 5-12 are available during March Break and the first month of Summer, running 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM. We offer crafts, activities, storytelling, and outings with local partners like The Discovery Centre and Mad Science for educational experiences. Breakfast, snacks, and lunch are provided. Our Mi'kmaw-focused day camp emphasizes cultural crafts and storytelling in a welcoming environment to foster friendships.

Treaty Day
Treaty Day in Nova Scotia is on October 1st. It celebrates the historic agreements between the Mi’kmaq and the British Crown and honors the rights and responsibilities from these treaties. This day also highlights Indigenous culture and focuses on building a good relationship between the Mi’kmaq and the people of Nova Scotia, promoting reconciliation and teamwork. Treaty Day strengthens our commitment to respect, communication, and collaboration.

Orange Shirt Day is a time to reflect on the impact of the residential school system in Canada and to celebrate the resilience of Indigenous communities. Join us on September 30th as we come together to honour the legacy of residential school survivors and show our commitment to reconciliation.
