The Wasoqonatl Transmission Line project team are currently seeking expressions of interest from community members who wish to be considered for future employment opportunities. At this stage, the project team is building a candidate database to identify and connect qualified individuals with positions as they become available throughout the project. Interested applicants can submit their information through an online application form; however, submission does not guarantee employment. Applications will be retained and reviewed as workforce needs arise during the project.
Valard is currently hiring Mi'kmaq community members for the upcoming transmission line project from Onslow/Truro to Salisbury. Work is starting as soon as possible, and there are a variety of positions available.

We are excited to share this upcoming opportunity on behalf of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC), for a FREE 8-week Scaffolding Program offered at the Carpenter Millwright College, 1000 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville, NS.
The program runs for 8 consecutive weeks, from September 28th through November 20th. It is a fully funded program through YESS.
Participants will receive:
4 weeks of in-class training, including:
1 week of safety training
3 weeks of the UBCJA Level 1 Scaffolding Program
Paid in-class training at the provincial minimum wage, based on 35 hours per week (non-taxable)
4 weeks of paid on-the-job training, compensated at the first-year apprentice rate as outlined in the Local 83 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)
In addition, participants will receive a full toolkit and all required PPE at no cost, which they will be able to keep upon successful completion of the program.
Support is also available for eligible participants, including:
Travel reimbursement of up to $70 per day for the first 20 training days, or reimbursement for public transit passes for the duration of the program
Childcare support of up to $25 per day, per child for those who require it
There is currently a strong demand for scaffolders in Nova Scotia, and successful participants may receive long-term employment opportunities upon completion of the program.
