    Who We Are

    Sitamuk (seet-ah-mook): on the water, is a social enterprise project developed by the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre’ that provides not only a place for Indigenous crafters and their work to reach those exploring Kjipuktuk (Halifax) but an opportunity to promote Mi’kmaq culture to all visitors. Fully Indigenous owned and operated, we have a seasonally operated cultural retail post and an online store coming soon!

    Our Vision

    We want to see an Indigenous owned and operated place that connects communities spread across Mi’kma’ki where our art and crafts are shared and traded in a good way, providing economic opportunity while reinstating the presence of Mi’kmaq and Indigenous culture on our lands of Kjipuktuk (Halifax).

FAQs

  • There are many cultural items and regalia that are sacred, ceremonial or respectively reserved for the appropriate people. We ensure that stocked items at Sitamuk have been made available for all to enjoy and hope your are happy to support authenic Mi’kmaw and Indigenous made/designed products.

  • While all our souvenir products are designed by Indigenous artists, we are committed to ensuring crafts are 100% Indigenous made. We utilize a process that identifies an individual’s identity, legitimate community connections, and product authenticity.

  • Show us your certified First Nation/Indian Status ID at the time of purchase and we will be happy to honor your tax exemption!
