Mijipjewey Kepmite’timu’k

A Food Security program

The way we respect food and the way we think about it - that is not taken for granted, that we share, and take care of each other, and appreciate the sources of our food.

    What is Mijipjewey Kepmite'timu'k program?

Mijipjewey Kepmite’timu’k embodies a deep-rooted respect for food, recognizing it not just as sustenance but as a sacred gift that binds us together as a community. In urban Indigenous culture, this concept encourages us to appreciate and honour the sources of our food, ensuring that we never take them for granted. By fostering a spirit of sharing and collective responsibility, we nurture each other’s wellbeing and create a supportive network centered on food sovereignty.

    Our Goals

Through various food-based programming, such as community gardens, feasts, and nutritional classes, we will engage in learning and sharing Indigenous land-based food knowledge, grounding our practices in respect and awareness. Our approach prioritizes a trauma-informed, person-centered, and decolonized framework, emphasizing harm-reduction principles, so that everyone feels valued, included, and empowered in their relationship with food and one another.
